Connecting iTunes with Muvid IR 715-2 and controlling it with an iPad

In this post I would like to explain how to stream audio over wifi to the muvid using the iPad.

This is my set up:
-My music library is in the HDD of my old iMac and I use iTunes.
-I would like to listen to it using my old internet radio: the muvid IR 715-2.
-And it would be great to control the whole thing with an iPad.

Probably you already know the boring way: setting up a UPnP server. It is boring because you end up with your whole library in a 4''x2''  screen in the muvid. The alternative is to use the iPad as a 'remote control'. I call this: the awesome way.

Let's start with the boring way (no iPad):

• download  a UPnP server such as TwonkyServer at  http://twonky.com/. (just install it in your mac without a license number and you'll get the trial version - don't know how long it lasts)

• The settings for the server can be modified in the web browser using the address: http://localhost:9000/

•  Look for 'Music Player'->'Media Share' in the muvid and you'll find your music.

The awesome way (with iPad):

•  Install the iPad app 'Remote' in order to control your mac's iTunes (check this site and this one for more info)

• Set up an internet radio sender (no worries...this is easy) using Nicecast. Download the trial version here and install it. Set it up using these instructions.

•  Go to Frontier's digital wifi website to add your internet radio station to your muvid. The internet address of your station should be of the form http://yourIP:8000/ (dismiss the  'listen.m3u').

And that's it! Your iTunes will play what your iPad tells it to, and it will stream the output sound to the muvid.

Nicecast is a trial version that will play quality sound only for 60 mins. If you like it, you'll have to pay 59$ in order to use it longer than one hour. There might be cheaper options out there but I have not tried anyone yet. Let me know if you do.
